ORCIEM (1980)

about

This piece is called ORCIEM: Occam's Razor Course In Electronic Music.
It was created in the middle of my electronic music production revolution that started for me in 1974 and culminated in 1994 with my album Outer World. (in my Bandcamp collection)

My one and only Electronic Music Brother in my hey day of Keith Emerson and ELP craze was a rocker college friend of mine named Matt. He was a very intelligent guy (certainly still is today) who was dedicated and hard working in his music studies. He had hair longer than most girls when I met him, but would only personally let loose and open up from his quiet style was when we were making music and getting funny and creative together in our late night music production sessions.

Matt was a very excellent keyboard guy who was a real music student at the time (I was just taking Electronic Music courses in the David S. Bates Electronic Music studio) Matthew had keyboard concerts and recitals of his own outside of EM for his degrees. Matt had rented my mom's mother in law apt and I met Matt around the backyard pool area.

When the Moog Synthesizer kicked in during the song Lucky Man, and I heard that song for the very first time, I was totally hooked and needed to know more about that sound. Matthew was and still is to this day, my one and only Keith Emerson ELP Electronic Music fan and good buddy. As it turned out, Matthew was also in the Electronic Music Department at California State University Fresno in the late late 70's too. He and I clicked and together worked on this piece of music together back in early 1980.

Here is Matthew Fabio Burton in his own words regarding our Electronic Music Project entitled...ORCIEM

"The marathon studio sessions of Orciem were intense and deeply creative. The main repetitive Hammond organ theme was the basis for developing the orchestration of the piece. As the ostinato melodic line developed, we were constantly experimenting with different electronic sound combinations to enhance the overall texture of the music. The piece was premiered in the Spring of 1980 at the Fresno State Music Department Composers Forum."

Enjoy.
